We just returned from the Trillium West Virginia tour. It was awesome! Judy and I added a day on either side to give us six days of beautiful weather (sun, blue skies, perfect top-down temperatures). We led one of five groups (six or seven cars per group) on the first actual driving day and it was great fun. We put on close to 600 km. driving from 8 a.m. to dinner at 6:30 p.m. (see us in the lead in picture 1). Day 2 was a bit shorter (about 500 km.), but still a lot of driving. West Virginia has the most fantastic roads with all kinds of curves and spectacular mountain views. An especial highlight for us was that we got to drive the new MX-5 on the day we led for a couple of hours (see pictures 2 and 3). It is a wonderful car. It feels a lot bigger, has many new accouterments, and handles very well. I wouldn't run out and buy one right away though. For some reason, while I was driving the mountain roads I was anxious to get back to my car. The looks aren't that impressive either. They say it no longer has the coke bottle shape of the M1 and M2 models, but to me it seems somewhat reminiscent of a turtle shell. All in all, we likely will buy one when I retire as we like the automatic with paddle shifters idea and it is more user friendly for traveling around North America which we plan to do. The people were great as well with many new friends and old acquaintances combined. If you ever get a chance to go to one of these long weekend tours, do not pass it up. - Dick
